Mrs. Runell Cauley Anderson

Mrs. Runell Cauley Anderson, age 66, Lyons, died Monday, December 2, 2002, at her residence following a brief illness.

The Montgomery County native had resided in Lyons for 22 years. She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include one son, William Hey, Emmit, Idaho; three sisters, Juanita Mosley, Mildred Elias, and Mary Garner, all of Lyons; two brothers, Aubrey Cauley, both of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 5, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Reverend Joe Phillips officiating. Internment followed at 2:00 p.m. in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery in Savannah.

Mr. Ben Bowen

Mr. Ben F. Bowen, age 67, Santa Claus, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002, in Meadows Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

The native and lifelong Toombs County resident was a retired investigator with the Toombs County Sheriff's Department, served in the U.S. Army, was mayor of Santa Claus for 10 years, and was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian R. Bowen, Santa Claus; one daughater, Donita Bowen, Augusta; two sons, Jeffery Bowen, Illinois, and Charles Kevin Bowen, Athens; one brother, Winston Bowen, Yulee, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeeral services were conducted Friday, December 6, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Jones-Stewart Funeral Home of Lyons with the Reverend Rick Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Old Mt. Zion Cemetery near Lyons.

Pallbearers were Sheriff Alvie Kight, Jr. and deputies Mike Carter, David Powell, Mike Harlan, Mitchell Meeks and Ramon Powell.

Mr. William Finch

Mr. William Carlton Finch, age 46, Vidalia, died Friday, December 6, 2002.

The son of the late Carlton Stenson and Margaret Phillips Finch was a retired truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include aunts and uncles, Pasco and Mildred Phillips, Ailey; Mavis and Frank Waller, Savannah; Thetis Pike, Pooler; Editha Finch, Metter; Lucille Finch, Vidalia; Christine Finch, Lyons; and several cousins.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, December 9, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend B.L. Horne officiating.

Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Arrington Graham

Mrs. Mary Arrington Graham, age 74, Soperton, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002.

The Laurens County native was a daughter of the late Willie Lee and Lydia Horton Arrington. She was retired from Soperton Manufacturing Company and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Laurens County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace H. Graham.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Joyce White and Betty Edge, both of Tarrytown, and Alma Jean Jackson, Soperton; six sons, Hubert Graham, Sammy Graham, David Graham, and Donnie Graham, all of Spoerton, John Willie Graham, Rockledge, and Danny Graham, Swainsboro; two sisters, Lucille Alligood, Cochran, and Rita Simmons, Middleburg, Fla.; one brother, Willie Arrington, Cadwell; 39 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 5, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton. Interment followed in Midway Cemetery.

Mr. Leonard McCoy, Sr.

Mr. Leonard McCoy, Sr., age 69, Vidalia, Ga., died Saturday, December 7, 2002, in Meadows Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

The Treutlen County native grew up in Johnson County and relocated to Vidalia in 1964. He was retired from Transus Freight Line with 29 years of service, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Beck McCoy, Vidalia; one son, Leonard McCoy, Jr., Auburn; one brother, Grady McCoy, Wrightsville; four sisters, Rubye Gregson, Atlanta, Evelyn Morris, Dublin, Lillian Pinion, Jonesboror, and Lethar Parr, Mableton; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia with the Reverend Albert White and the Reverend Brian Patrick officiating. Interment followed in the Pinecres Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Johnny Jackson, Shannon Jackson, Joey Morgan, Rodney Horne, Brent Temples, Tommy Joyner, Mike Brown and Nick Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Junior Bellflower, Robbie Joyner, Quincey McCoy, Cecil McCoy, James McCoy, Ray McCoy, F.E. Miller, Johnny Dixon, Elvin Johnson, Fred Murray, Kenneth Sowell and Rayford Blount.

Mr. James T. "Red" Poole

Mr. James T. "Red" Poole, age 67, Newton, died Wednesday, December 40, 2002, at his residence.

The Toombs County native was the son of the late Grover Louis and Nina Mae Reese Poole. He was a retired farmer and a member of First Pentecostal Church of God in Newton. He was preceded in death by a son, James Shannon Poole.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Poole, Newton; three daughters, Kathy Owens, Albany, Margie Townsend, Chatsworth, and Judy Mae Poole, Newton; one sister, Nina Ruth Morgan, Glenwood; three brothers, Malcolm Poole, Brantley, Ala., and Carl Poole and Tommy Poole, both of Glenwood; and 11 grandchildren..

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in Glenwood Church of God with Pastor Kenneth Thompson, the Reverend R.A. Snow, and the Reverned Bennie Morris officiating. Interment followed in Glenwood City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James C. Poole, Bryan Rentz, Eddie Townson, Tommy Thigpen, Andy Poole, Kenneth Poole and John Lewis Poole.

Mr. Donnell Tootle

Mr. Donnell Tootle, age 45, Vidalia, died Thursday, December 5, 2002, in Meadows Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

The native and lifelong Toombs County resident was a construction worker, served in the National Guard for 12 years, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Tootle, Vidalia; one son, Tony Campbell, Honea Path, S.C.; two daughters, Tiffnay Mincey, Uvalda, and Sherry Beckworth, Vidalia; three brothers, Darrell Tootle, Lyons, and Gerald Tootle and Edward Tootle, both of Vidalia; four sisters Sherry Helms and Shelby Willaimson, both of Vidalia, Sally Jean Bryant, Lyons, and Louise Hadden, Swainsboro, seven nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, December 8, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Reverend Joe Phillips and the Reverend Henry Dowd officiating. Interment followed in the South Thompson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shannon Bryan, Jr. Williamson, Brian Thompson, Jeffy Foskey, Randall Foskey and Weddrell Meeks.
