Mrs. Ila Stitcher Brown, age 86, Vidalia, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003, in Bethany Home Nursing Center of Vidalia following an extended illness.
The Douglas County native had resided most of her life in Newnan, Ga., relocating to Vidalia in 1989. She had been a resident of Bethany Home Nurshing Center since 1991. She was a beautician for many years and served as pianist in her church for over 40 years. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Vidalia, and was resceded in death by her busband, Eugene L. Brown, in 2000.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Barry Eugene and Ellen Reece Brown, Vidalia; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 24, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. in McKoon Funeral Home Chapel in Newnan with the Reverend Doug Bearden officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Mrs. Eloise Bedingfield Conner, age 86, Vidalia, died Friday, January 17, 2003.
The Rentz, Laurens County, Ga., native had resided in Vidalia since 1946. She was a graduate of Georgia state College for Women in Milledgeville, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Vidalia. She was preceded in death by her busband, Dr. Herbert Ira Conner, in 1994.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Jon Parker, and Judy and Frank Scarborough, all of Houston, Texas, Nancy and Douglas Coxwell, Portsmouth, N.H., and Martha and Robert Ricard, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Grace B. Smith, Dublin; two sisters-in-law, Martha M. Bedingfield, Vidalia, and Doris H. Bedingfield, Dublin; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 20, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in First United Methodist Church of Vidalia with the Reverend David Blalock officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Parker, Mark Keller, Bick Clark, John Scarborough and James Clark.

Mrs. Ollie Mae Davis, age 89, Dalton, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, after an extended illness.
She was a native of Tattnall County, living most of her life in Toombs County and residing in Dalton for the past seven years. She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Stanford, Dallas, Texas; two sons, O.G. Davis, Jr., Dalton and James A. Davis, Dalton; one sister, Johnnie Cone, Lyons; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Jimmy Cone officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cememtery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Green, Coney Cone, Michael Sikes, George Fell, James Davis and Dickie Davis.

Mr. John Wilson Lacey, Jr., White Plains, Georgia, died Tuesday, January 19, 2003.
He was a native of Taliaferro County, Georgia. He was a member of the White Plains Baptist Church, the Sparta VFW and a former member of the Georgia Cattlemen's Association. He was also a veteran in the U.S. Army in World War II, was a self-employed business owner and a farmer. He is the son of the late Thelma Braddy and the late John W. Lacey, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Scellar Stein Lacey, White Plains; three daughters, Patricia Boyd, Suwannee, Georgia, Betty Pirkle, Loganville, Georgia, and Johnnie Ellis, Buckhead, Georgia; and three grandchildren, John A. Lacey, White Plains, Alex Pirkle, Loganville, and Michelle Ellis, Buckhead.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in McCommons Funeral Home Chapel in Greensboro, Georgia, with Reverend Norman Waldrip and Reverend Curtis Moore officiating. Interment followed in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jamie Eley, John Eley, David Price; Harry Blanchard, Billy Ellis, Roy Ashley, Jr., and Ike Moore.

Mrs. Gertrude Oliver, age 75, Alamo, died Sunday, January 19, 2003, in the St. Joseph Hospital of Savannah after a brief illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Alamo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Union Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Fowler, Alamo, and Paulette Edge, Mt. Vernon; two sons, Vance Oliver and Larry Oliver, both of Alamo; one sister, Jewelene Abbott, Dublin; three brothers, Bob Abbott, Alamo, Bill Abbott, Thomson, and Jerry Abbott, Douglasville; 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. in the Union Primitive Baptist Church near Alamo with Rev. Huey L. Glisson officiating. Interment followed in the Alamo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Darren Oliver, Roger Pope, William Brantley, Wendell Seabolt, Len Edge and Tyler Oliver.

Mrs. Lula Bell NeeSmith O'Neal, age 90, Uvalda, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003, in Meadows Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
The Toombs County native had resided in Cedar Crossing for the past 30 years. She was a retired cashier and a member of Cedar Crossing Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, James E. "Mac" O'Neal, Vidalia, and Gene Wesley O'Neal, Marietta; one sister, Irene Willis, Brunswick; two brothers, J. Hall NeeSmith and Hugh Vernon NeeSmith, both of Cedar Crossing; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 17, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. in Cedar Crossing Church of God with the Reverend Steven Toole and the Reverend Bobby Toole officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Crossing Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Toole, Wade Arnold, Willard Wiggins, Tim White, Lamar Toole and Allen Willis.

Mrs. Jerolene Hutcheson Phillips, age 67, Lyons, died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness.
The Toombs County native was a homemaker and a member of First Advent Christian Church in Vidalia. She was prceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Phillips.
Survivors include four daughters, Ann Beckum, Judy Mosley and Kathy Messex, all of Lyons, and Jenny Barwick, Vidalia; two sons, Charlie Phillips and Max Phillips, both of Lyons; one sister, Oliene Kirby Smith, Swainsboro; one brother, Omer Hutcheson, Oak Park; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 25, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in First Advent Christian Church with the Reverend Clint Hutcheson and the Reverend Travis Hutcheson officiating. Interment followed in Phillips Family Cemetery near Oak Park.
Active pallbearers were Robert Beckum, Kyle Wiggins, Chad Hutcheson, Stacey Hutcheson, Billy Copeland and Rick Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were members of First Advent Christian Church.

Mr. Robert L. "Bobby" Powell, age 66, Vidalia, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, in St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital of Savannah following a brief illness.
The native and lifelong Toombs County resident was retired owner/operator of Mar-Key Foods of Vidalia. He was a member and past Master of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330 F & AM, a member of Alee Shrine, past president of Vidalia Moose Lodge, past president of Vidalia Jaycess and district president and a charter member of Grace Methodist Church of Vidalia.
Survivors include one son, Louie R. Powell, Vidalia; one daughter, Angie P. Kearney, Vidalia; two brothers, Franklin Powell, Tampa, Fla., and Clarence Powell, Vidalia; three sisters, Lucille P. Odom, Vidalia, Barbara Faye Thompson, Reidsville, and Nellie Ruth Lewis, El Dorado, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, january 25, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Reverend Creg Riner and the Reverend Greg Shivers officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearters were Ricky Powell, Randy Powell, Kipper Odom, William Ledford, Buddy West and Greg Morris. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Loyal Order of the Moose and members of the Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330.

Ms. Blanche A. Wiggins, age 85, Uvalda, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, in St. Joseph's Hospital of Savannah following a brief illness.
The Candler County native had resided in Daytona Beach and Deland, Fla., most of her life, relocating to Uvalda in 2002. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Uvalda Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha A. NeeSmith and Lee A. Petie Kendall, both of Uvalda; one sister, Carolyn Noble, Deland; two brothers, Leroy Byrd, Lake Helen, Fla., and John Byrd, Lyons; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted Saturday, January 25, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. in Uvalda Church of God with the pastor, the Reverend Paul Carson, officiating.
