Mr. Raymon “Nip” Craft Obituary

Mr. Raymon "Nip" Craft, age 78, Lyons, died Saturday, June 28, 2003.

He was a native of Montgomery County, living most of his life in Toombs County. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two brothers, George Craft, Jr., Lyons, and Jesse Craft, Jacksonville, Florida; six sisters, Glenda Osborne, Vidalia, Faye Monahan, Norcross, Alice Gross, Vidalia, Betty Howell, Cumming, Francis Carlisle, Smyrna, and evelyn Dills, Locust Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Rowe and Rev. Edgar Rowe officiating. Interment followed in Lakewiew Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Wayne, Delma and Corey Craft, Brad Sowell, Darnell Jones and Mike Monahan.

Mr. U. S. Jones Obituary

U. S. Jones, prominent area civic, religious, business leader dies

U.S. Jones, one of this areas’ foremost civic, religious and business leaders died Thursday, June 19, 2003 in Meadows Memorial Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Jones, age 76, a native of Candler County had lived in Lyons, Ga. where he was associated with Trapnell-Jones Funeral Home for 53 years and where he was the owner and operator of the mortuary until his retirment in 1998.

He was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Carlton B. Jones of Candler County; a graduate of Metter High School in 1944 and an enlistee in the United States Navy serving at bases in California and Michigan. He received his degree at the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science and upon graduation joined Hooks Mortuary in Metter, later becoming associated with the late Earriest Trapnell in the operation of Trapnell Funeral Home. In 1951 he became the youngest coroner in the state of Georgia serving in that office for six years.

Selected as the Lyons Citizen of the Year in 1986. Mr. Jones was a member and former director of the Lyons-Toombs Chamber of Commerce. He was an agent for the United Family Insurance Company and he served on the company’s advisory board. Mr. Jones was a member of the American Legion and Disabled Veterans of America. He is credited with organizing the Lyons Jaycees and the Lyons Kiwanis Club and he was a past director of the Lyons Masonic Lodge.

As a member of the Lyons First Baptist Church Mr. Jones served as Brotherhood President. He was on the Active Deacon Board and other church departments including the finance committee, serving as assistant treasurer and as a member of the Senior Choir. He was Assembly Director and a member of the Barracca Sunday School Class.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Billy Higgs Jones, Lyons; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie Jones Clark and James R. Clark, Baxley; Michele Jones Mosley and Marshall Mosley, Lyons; one son, Jeff S. Jones, Decatur; two brothers, C.B. and John Jones, Metter, five grandchildren, Kathryn and Trey Mosley, Lyons, and Carson, Kristen, and Kara Clark, Baxley; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Jones were held Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Lyons with the Rev. Dannie Williams and Dr. Max Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Wiggins, Bill Braswell, Ronald Widener, John Jones, Jr., Howell Dixon and Homer Lewis.

Mr. Theodore Roundtree Obituary

Mr. Theodore Roundtree of Union City, GA, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at his residence. He was a native of Toombs County, GA and a Baptist.

Survivors include his parents: Joseph Roundtree, Union City, GA, and Betty Baker, Vidalia; step-parents: William Baker and Peggie Roundtree; three sons: Raefeal A. Roundtree, Cavonte Singleton and Rodrick Rodgers all of Vidalia, one stepbrother: Deante Canty, Union City, GA, one sister: Aprilrella Phillips, Augusta, GA, parental grandmother: Jaunita Roundtree, Vidalia, maternal grandfather: Ebin Spikes, Ailey, GA, nine aunts, eight uncles and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 1:00 at the First African Baptist Church, Vidalia, GA.

Internment will be in the Eternal Glory Gardens, Vidalia, GA.

Vidalia Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements of Theodore Roundtree of Union City, GA.

Mr. Walter Harold Smith Obituary

Mr. Walter Harold Smith, 87, formerly of Vidalia, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Orange Park, FL. Mr. Smith was a Verteran of WWII, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Woodstock Lodge #313 and member of the Shrine. He retired from N.A.R.F. Jacksonville Naval Air Station after 30 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth Smith; daughters, Kitty Hollingsworth (Pres), Atlantic Beach, FL and Pam Hamilton (Ray), Vidalia, GA; sons, Jim Smith (Ann), Chicago, IL and Harold Donahue (Linda), Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Jeff and Jason Hollingsworth, Beth Childs, Annie HKaufold, Jordan Smith, John and Steven Donahue and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Dr. Ronnie L. McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Apostles at Jacksonville Memory Gardens. The family well receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 25, 2003.

Master Kevin Michael Story Obituary

Master Kevin Michael Story, age 14 months, of Vidalia, died Thursday June 26th after a sudden illness.

Survivros include his mother; Michaela Story, Vidalia, father: Jonathan Fountain, Vidalia, maternal grandparents: Michael and Anita Sheffield, Vidalia and Michael Story of Hephzibah, paternal grandparents: John and Jeanna Fountain, Vidalia, maternal great grandmothers: Mary Meyer, Augusta, Mary agerton, Ashville, NC and Rose Story, Augusta, paternal great grandparent: John and Glenda Waldrep of Ailey.

Services for Kevin Michael Story were conducted Sunday afternoon June 29th at 4:00 from the Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Don Moye officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Richard Roberts, Hebert Burton, Noah Farmer and Travis Farmer.

Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service of Vidalia was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ms. Sabrena Tedder Obituary

Sabrena Teddler, age 26, of Marianna, FL, and formerly of Donalsonville, GA, died April 30, 2003 at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003 from the chapel of the Evans-Skipper Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Hubert Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church in Iron City, GA.

Survivors include, her mother, Tammy Terrell, Ft. Gaines, GA; her step-father, Jeff Harris, Ft. Gaines, GA; her father, Royce Harden, Vidalia, GA; her maternal grandfather, H.D. Evans (Gloria Sue), Crockett, TX; her maternal great grandmother Macy Gagnun, Crockett, TX; her paternal grandmother, June Shapiro, Vidalia, GA; one son, Sean Tedder and two daughters, Brittnay and Kimberly Tedder, all from Donalsonville, GA; two step-children, Jake and Maggie Powell, Marianna, FL; two brothers, Wayne (Sandra) Harden and Joey Harden of Donalsonville, GA; one sister, Deanna Harden (Steve Baker), Donalsonville, GA. Several aunts, uncles, neices and nephews also survive.

Mr. Caswell S. Yawn Obituary

Mr. Caswell S. Yawn, age 77, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Ray City, Georgia. He lived most of his life in Jesup, later moving to Reidsville. He was a United States Navy Veteran and retired from Georgia State Prison as an X-ray technologist with 25 years of service. He worked part-time with the Doctors Lab as a lab technologist. He was a member and deacon of the Reidsville Baptist Church, Past Master of Rising Sun Lodge #32, served on the Board of directors of the Reidsville Lions Club and was a member of the Reidsville VFW Post #7760. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clayton Samuel Yawn and Vera Roberts Yawn.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Curl Yawn, Reidsviile; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton and Ellie Yawn, Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Greg and Susan Yawn, Dacula, Georgia; two step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Mike and Kelly Canady, Hagan, and Wayne and Tammy Canady, Reidsville; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Teresa and Darion Stanfield, Reidsville; two sisters, D'Ree Natale, Washingtonville, New York, and Allene Stutzman, Pinehurst, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 23, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Reidsville Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery with Masonic Burial Rites.
