Mr. Horace J. Barfield, age 60, Ailey, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Barfield was a native of Toombs County residing in Montgomery County for the past Three years. He was an electrician and was Baptist by faith.
Survivors include one son, Jim Barfield, Ailey; one daughter, Rhonda Barfield, Ailey; one stepson, Tommy Patrick, Ailey; one stepdaughter, Kay Kaiser, Statesboro; the children's mother, Helen Barfield, Ailey; one sister, Patricia Hall, Homestead, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. from the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Don Gibbs officiating. Interment followed in Ferguson Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Rudy Barfield, Ricky Barfield, Terry Barfield, Robbie Barfield, Greg Todd, and Mike Todd. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Patrick, Rusty Hutcheson, Barney Hutcheson, Tim Sikes, Lucky Padgett, Eddison Cook, and John Smith.

Mr. Perry C. Conner, age 43, Uvlada, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at his residence after a brief illness.
Mr. Conner was a native and lifelong resident of Toombs County. He was a boilermaker, a member of Local 26 and was a member of the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Conner.
Survivors include hi wife, Melissa Barrett Conner, Uvalda; two sons, Clinton J. Conner and Ethan Edward Conner, both of Uvalda; two daughter, Tiffany Joyner, Leesburg, Va., and Mandy Creange, McRae; his parents Harry "Spud" and Monteen Kay Conner, Uvalda; one sister, Janice Aultman, Green Cove Springs, Fla.; one brother, Jerry Conner, Uvalda; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 25, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. from Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Ronald Cobb, Rev. Gilbert Wommakc, and Rev. Ricky McCarty officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Crossing Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mike Lay, Phil Crosby, Steve Crumpton, Ricky Hunter, Jimmy Selestock, and Alan Willis, Honorary pallbearers were boilermakers.

Ms. Paula T. Daniel, age 58, Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in the Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after a brief illness.
Ms. Daniel was a native of Ben Hill County, resided in Leslie for 27 years and lived in Mt. Vernon for the past 5 years. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leslie.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William Clyde and Rebakh Daniel II, Americus, and Matthew Paul and Hanna Daniel, Leslie; one granddaughter, Adreanna Daniel, Leslie; her mother, Eleanor Tucker, Mt. Vernon; and one brother, William H. Tucker, Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating. Committal and interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in
Pallbearers were Ronnie Clements, Ryan Clements, William Henry, Jimmy Smith, Michael Smith, and Larry Hancock.

Ms. Helen Phillips of Tarrytown died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at her home.
Miss Phillips was born in Treutlen County and was a daughter of the late Graddie Dan and Arlie Mac Wilkes Phillips. She was retired and of the Advent Christian faith.
Survivors include a life long friend, Mary Sutton, Tarrytown; a nephew, his wife and daughter, Keith, Vickie and Victoria Phillips, Tarrytown.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with the Rev. Donny Crosby officiating. Interment followed in Zaidee Advent Christian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Phillips, Grady Cammack, Woodrow Phillips, Frank Phillips, Bobby Cammack and Jack Sweat.

Mr. Bernard Simpson, age 71, Vidalia, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia after an extended illness.
Mr. Simpson was born in Montgomery County, Living most of his life in the area. He was a graduate of Montgomery County High School in Kibbee, a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean conflict, retired from CDC in Atlanta and a retired carpenter and construction superintendent, a member of the VFW of Montgomery County and attended the North Thompson Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Lucille L. Simpson, Vidalia; one daugher and son-in-law, Gail and Russ Cronic, Cleveland; two sons and dauthers-in-law, Wayne and Robin Simpson, Flowery Branch, and Steve and Claudia Simpson, Oakwood; six grandchildren, John Mark and Samantha Cronic, Cody and Dylan Simpson, Benjamin and Rachel Charles; two sisters, Mary Will Dixon, Columbia, S.C., and Bobbie Nell Reyes, Vidalia; two brothers, W.G. Helms, Milledgeville, and Walt Davis, Vidalia; two brothers-in-law, J.W. and Dean Lamb; one special aunt, Rebecca Alligood, Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Reverend John Sullivan and Reverend Greg Riner officiating. Interment followed in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Joey Lamb, Johnny Davis, Hayward Kight, Roy Curl, John Mark Cronic and Benjamin Charles. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Lamb, Wendell Moxley, M.T. Blaxton, Jimmy Hamilton, Colon McCoy, William King, Ed Hightower, Pratt Perdue, Earl Witt and Curtis Warnock.

Mr. Marion Francis Walton, age 81, Charleston, S.C., died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Walton was a native of Ellenton, S.C. residing most of his life in Charleston, S.C. He was a navy veteran and was retired from the civil service.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Betty P. Walton, Hilton Head Island, S.C.; four nieces, Meg Walton Hadlock, Augusta, Ellen Walton Long, Berkeley Heights, N.J., Dale Williams, Orlando, Fla., and Sue Best, Vidalia; one nephew, Ed Walton, Augusta; and one close friend of 45 years, James Owens, Charleston, S.C.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Friday, May 23, 2003, at 12:00 p.m. in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Interment followed.

Mr. Buford Lee Weeks, age 59, Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Weeks was a retired truck driver and Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Bunk Weeks, and brother, Doyle Weeks.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Weeks, Mt. Vernon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Kimberly Weeks, Mt. Vernon, and Michael and Tina Weeks, Ailey; four grandchildren, Amber, Megan, and Shawn Weeks, Mt. Vernon, and Abigail Weeks, Ailey; mother, Editha Weeks, Mt. Vernon; father-in-law, Ronald Bautch, Whitehall, Wisconsin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Frieda Weeks and Herman and Ann Weeks, Mt. Vernon; brothers, Robert, and Ronald "Chubby" Weeks, Mt. Vernon; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Foncene and Ervin Price, Bristol, Tat and Ray Lamb, Mt. Vernon, Lorrie and Jerome Jordan and Eve and James Taylor, both of Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were conducted Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at 8:00 p.m. from the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Brian Patrick officiating.

Mr. Jerry "Nip" Woods, age 58, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at his home near Lyons.
He was a native of Toombs County. He was a retired sheet metal worker, a member of Oak Park and Stillmore Church of God.
Survivors include one son, Clay Woods, Ailey; one daughter, Kathy Blackmon, Lyons; five sisters, Ruth Robinson, Jonesboro, Mary Sikes, Cobbtown, Betty Lively, Collins, Doris Rice, Swainsboro, and Gail Taylor, Hazlehurst; three borthers, Billy Woods, Johnson Corner, Jimmy Woods, Toombs County, and Tommy Woods and Charles Woods, Metter; two grandchildren, Hailey Blackmon and Kevin Woods; and his friend, Tina Stallings, Lyons.
Memorial services were conducted Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Collins officiating.
