Mrs. Rosa Mae Brown Obituary

Mrs. Rosa Mae Brown, age 73, Higgston, died Monday, September 29, 2003.

She was born in Telfair County. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Brown, and her parents the late Wallace and Eliza Walker.

Survivors include three sons, John R. Brown, Jacksonville, Georgia, Ralph Brown, Normantown, and Michael Ray Brown, Vidalia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wedndesday, October 1, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sand Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Prentice Herndon officiating. Interment followed in the Sand Grove Church Cemetery.

Lowes Funeral Home of Helena, Georgia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Mart B. Conner Obituary

Mr. Mart B. Conner, age 92, Ailey, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, in Bethany Home Nursing Center after an extended illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was a retired logger and farmer. He was a member of the McGregor Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his partents, James Thomas and Alice Claxton Conner, four sisters, Thelma Conner, Edna Lumley, Mae Sheppard and Roselene Williams; anf five brother, Abbott, Clarence, David, Byron and Charlie Cook Conner.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa Towns Conner, Ailey; and daughter and son-in-law, Beverly C. and Don M. Thigpen, Ailey, one son and daughter-in-law, Mart Donnie and Deborah W. Conner, Vidalia; four grandchildren, Janet T. Stanley and husband, Byron, Lyons, D. Alan Thigpen and wife, Christy C., Vidalia, Mart W. Conner, Vidalia, and Mandy J. Conner, Woodstock; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Audrie Joiner and Eudene Stribling, both of Atlanta, and Ruth Lawrence, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of MUrchison Funeral Home with Rev. David Blalock officating. Interment followed in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Bruce Herndon, L.G. Herndon, Jr., Ben Smith, Kenneth Clifton, Bert Corbett, Wayne Moody, John Dale McNames, Dan Mitchell and Ray Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were James Castleman, Wyman Morris, H.E. O'Neal, Charles Davis, Harvey Sears, Randolph O'Neal, Wayne Goff, Percy Herndon, Lou Tiller, Rayburn Clark, Jim A. Hughes and Bethany Home Staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to McGregor Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 153, Mount Vernon, GA 30445 or the church of your choice.

Mrs. Margie Knight Obituary

Mrs. Margie Knight, age 42, Lyons, died Friday, September 26, 2003, in Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia.

She was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, living in Folkston most of her life and in Toombs County the past two years. She was a licensed cosmotogisit. She was employed with Hair Gallery in Vidalia and formerly at GiGi's hair salon in Folkston. She was precdeded in death by her mother, Margaret M. Atkins.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Knight, Lyons; one daughter, Bethany McCallister, Folkston; two sons, Tyler and Doug McCalllister, both of Folkston; three step-daughters, Mandi Douglas and Angie Waller, both of Lyons, and Gabrielle knight, Prarieville, Louisiana; one step-son, Mathew Knight, Lyons; her father, Alfred Atkins, Sr., Folkston; three sisters, Debra Woods, Lumber City, Jenny Crews and Becky Todd, both of Folkston; three brothers, David Phillips, Hilliard, Florida, Doyle Phillips Folkston, and Alfred Atkins, Jr., Cummining; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Matthews Church of God with Rev. Harry Sims and Rev. Shannon Mimbs officating. Graveside services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. in Sardis Cemetery near Folkston.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Knight, Charles Coleman, Barry Waller, Pete Mimbs, Vance Knight and Dale Woods.

Murchison Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangments.

Mrs. Thelma M. Muncus Obituary

Mrs. Thelma M. Muncus, age 85, Hampton, Georgia, died Sunday, september 28, 2003, in the Spalding Regional Medical Center of Griffin after an extended illness.

She was a native of Montgomery County, had lived in Vidalia and resided in Savannah, later moving to North Georgia. She was a retired cashier with K-Mart of Savannah and was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Savannah.

Survivors include one daughter, Nettie Fritz, Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania; one son, John C. Muncus, Hampton; one sister, Willena Miller, Vidalia; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Don Moye officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Mr. James M. "Jim" Simmons, Sr. Obituary

Mr. James M. "Jim" Simmons, Sr., age 69, Lyons, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, in the Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after a brief illness.

He was a native of Virginia, later moving to Toombs County. Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 26, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Jones-Stewart Funeral Home of Lyons with Rev. Gene McCard, Rev. Charles Morgan and Rev. H.G. Ridgdill officiating. Interment follo9wed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Gary Reynolds, Robbie Oglesby, Kevin Oglesby, David Williamson, Randal Duncan, Mike Lanigan and Michael Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Jake Strickland, Fuzy Victor, Glynn Chapman and James Thompson.

Mrs. Mary Morris Taylor Obituary

Mrs. Mary Morris Taylor, age 52, Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, September28, 2003, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was a native of Toombs County residing most all of life in Montgomery County. She was a homemaker and a member of Snbowhill Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otta Taylor.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherrilyn Taylor, Mt. Vernon; one son, Jarvis Taylor, Mt. Vernon; her mother, Eva H. Connell, Reidsville; one sister, Hilda Taylor, Ailey; and five grandchildren, Ashley Taylor, Katie and Shelby Thigpen, Jarvis and Shania Taylor, all of Mt. Vernon.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Morris Cemetery near Ailey with Rev. Dewitt Corbin officiating. Interment followed.

Mr. Robert Craig Thiel Obituary

Mr. Robert Craig Thiel, age 57, Vidalia, died Friday, September 26, 2003, in Meadows Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

He was a native of Orange, New Jersey, living in San Antonio, Texas, and later moving to Toombs County. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended Oasis Church of God.

Survivors include one daughter, Alicia Thiel, San Antonio; one brother, Bill Thiel, San Antonio; one sister; his former wife, Barbara Thiel, Lyons; four step-children, Lisa Wilson, Vidalia, Jennifer Dismuke and Aubrey Stephens, both of Lyons, and Kerry Wilson, Oak Park; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 3, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Oasis Church of God with Rev. Gilbert Wommack officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Vera H. Woodruff Obituary

Mrs. Vera H. Woodruff, age 86, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, in Lithonia, Georgia.

She was born in Toombs County. She was an Executive Secretary for Archer Drug Company in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Survivors include two sons, Glynn and Richard "Rocky" Fields, both of Conyers; one daughter, Kamathy Sager, Mohnton, Pa.; five greadchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Fueneral services were held Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Harry L. White Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Cheek officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Vidalia at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 1925 Century Blvd., NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, Georgia 30345-3315.
