Mrs. Frances Dent Black Obituary

Mrs. Frances Dent Black, age 84, died Friday, October 10, 2003, at her residence after a long illness.

She was a native of Toombs County residing most of her life in Vidalia. She was a nurse and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia.

Survivors include three nieces, Lu Ellen Carpenter, Vidalia, Sylvia Findley and Christine Davis, both of Richmond Hill; three nephews, Roger Black, Richmond Hill, Marshall Black, Vidalia, and Wendell McGowan, LaGrange; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were conducted Sunday, October 12, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. David Blalock officiating.

Mrs. Helen Sullivan Clark Obituary

Mrs. Helen Sullivan Clark, age 86, Vidalia, died Sunday, October 5, 2003, after an extended illness.

She was a native of Duluth, Minesota, living most of her life in West Palm Beach, Florida, and later moving to Vidalia. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a librarian, was a member of the PEO (Philanthropic Organization), and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of West Palm Beach.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert B. Clark, Sr., Vidalia; one daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey C. Murray and Dr. James E. Murray, Livermore, California; one son, Dr. Robert B. Clark, Jr., Vidalia; and five grandchildren, Robert B. Clark, III and Helen C. Clark, both of Atlanta, James M. Clark, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jennifer M. Murray and Alexander C. Murray, both of Livermore.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia with Rev. David Blalock and Rev. Paul Dupree officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert B. Clark, III, James M. Clark, Alexander C. Murray, Steve Richards, Dr. Ronnie Smith and Dr. Steve McGlocklin.

Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the arrangments.

Mrs. Mabel Dowdy Obituary

Mrs. Mabel Dowdy, age 101, Vidalia, died Thursday, October 9, 2003, in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after a brief illness.

She was a native of Dodge County residing in Toombs County for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of New Corinth Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Beatrice Sessions and Dorothy Galbreath, both of Vidalia, Jewel Horne, Reidsville, and Pat Hahn, Brimingham, Alabama; one son, Ray Dowdy, Lake City, Florida; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 11, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Bobby Corely officiating. Interment followed in the Center Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Johnny Humphrey, Jerry Humphrey, Jimmy Humphrey, Eric Hahn, Daivd Galbreath, Glynn Horne and Greg Dowdy.

Mr. Ernest Fraizer Obituary

Mr. Ernest Fraizer, Lyons, died Monday, October 6, 2003, in the Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia.

He was a Baptist and a native of South Carolina.

Survivors include God children, Superintendent James McRae, Wilbert McRae, Jr. and Henretta McRae, all of Vidalia, Carrie Summerset and Novella McRae, both of Lyons, and Frankie Joyce, Uvalda; 18 great-godchildren; and 12 great-great-godchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 11, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the East Park Church of God in Christ of Vidalia with Superintendent James McRae officiating. Interment followed in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery of Lyons.

Dr. C.A. George Obituary

Dr. C.A. George, Vidalia, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, in the St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital of Savannah after a brief illness.

He was a native of India, residing in the Vidalia area for many years. He was a Professor of Sociology at Brewton-Parker College.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Mariam George; two daughters, Dr. Bagie George and Cigie George; and one son, Agie George.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 18, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. in the Saliba Chapel at Brewton-Parker College. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

Mr. Ben Edward Lane Obituary

Mr. Ben Edward Lane, age 80, Vidalia, died Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at his residence.

He was a native of Jenkins County, living most of his life in Vidalia. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, retired from Interstate Oil Company as an owner-operator, and a member of the First Assembly of God of Vidalia.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Teri and Allen Johnson, Vidalia, Peggy and Tony Rogers, Waynesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Debbie Lane, Reidsville; seven grandchildren, Chris Strickland and Benjamin Johnson, both of Vidalia, Jessica Hutto, Barnwell, South Carolina, Brittany Johnson, Vidalia, Kayla and Alisha Lane, Reidsville, and Theresa Campbell, Brunswick; four great-grandchildren; his former wife, Joyce Parrish, Vidalia; one sister, Bobbie Jean Christopher, Clearview, Florida; one brother, Rufus Lane, Millen; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 11, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Rev. David Knight and Rev. Dan Webber officiating. Interment was in the Millen City Cemetery in Millen.

Pallbearers were Harley Strickland, Bobby Oglesby, Freddie Stewart, Michael Crumpler, Lee Clark and Virgial Sapp.

Mrs. Fannie Delois Lane Obituary

Mrs. Fannie Delois Lane, Ailey, died Friday, October 10, 2003, at her residence.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a Baptist.

Survivors include one daughter, Alonda Love, Silver Springs, Md.; one son, Tyrone McLeod, Rahway, N.J.; six brothers, Joseph Lane, Jr., Morganville, N.J., Marvin Lane, Jamaica Plains, Massachusetts, Adolphus Lane and Rickey Lane, both fo Stockbridge, Georgia, Anthony Lane, Chesapeake, Va., and Scotty Lane, Texas; seven sisters, Gloria McKinnon, Jonesboro, Ga., Diane Lane and Loretta Lane, both of Ailey, Brenda Lane, Angela Williams and Yvonne Lane, all of Atlanta, and Phyllis Wright, Soperton; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, October 13, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Live Oak Cemetery, Ailey, with Rev. Lee Coleman officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. James Edward "J.E." Odom Obituary

Mr. James Edward "J.E." Odom, age 89, Lyons, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, in Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after an extended illness.

He was a native of Toombs County living in Baltimore, Maryland, for many years, later returning to Lyons. He was a general inspector and mechanical engineer, and during his military service was a Naval Air Force Flight Engineer. He was a member of Lyons Masonic Lodge #49, a member of Omega Council #26 and the Royal Arch, both of Lyons. He was past High Priest of the Royal Arch, a shriner and member of the Boumi Temple in Baltimore, and was a member of the Center United Methodist Church. He was receded in death by his wife, Clara B. Odom, two sisters, Annie Vera Harrell and Elouise Krulic and one brother, Cecil Odom.

Survivors include tow sisters, Kay Truett, Vidalia, and Joyce Gay, Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Bruce Odom, Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Ocotber 14, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel fo Murchison Funeral Home with Rev. James Ellis Boyd officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery with masonic graveside rites.

Pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge.

Mrs. Addie M. Dukes Solomon Obituary

Mrs. Addie M. Dukes Solomon, age 36, Ft. Valley, Georgia, died Saturday, October 4, 2003, at her residence.

She was a native of Lyons. She was an educator at Tucker Head Start in Warner Robins.

Survivors include her husand, Denorris Solomon, Fort Valley; one son, Anthony Johnson, Jr., Leander, Texas; her father, Sylvester Dukes, Lyons; two brothers, Gregory Dukes, Korea (Ft. Hood, Tx.), and Antwan Dukes, Ft. Valley; and four sisters, Sabrina Cutler, Lyons, Williette Howard, Ft. Valley, Glenda Drings, Reidsville; and Sylvia Gillis, Ft. Valley.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 11, 2003, at 12:00 noon in the Holy Ghost Assembly Church of God in Christ, Lyons, with Bishop James Holland officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery, Lyons.

Vidalia Funeral Home was in charge of the local arrangements and Edwards Funeral Home of Ft. Valley was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Roy A. Webb Obituary

Mr. Roy A. Webb, age 99, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, after a brief illness.

He was a native of Stephenson, Georgia. He retired after 22 years with Bailey Auto Parts. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was an usher for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Evie Marlow Webb and his wife, Lila Whigham Webb.

Survivors include his children, Larry A. (Gayle) Webb, Musella, Phillip A. Webb, East Point, Sybil (Wendell L.) Metts, Vidalia, Brenda (David) Helms, Macon and Roy A. Webb, Jr., Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Harlold Webb, Anderson, South Carolina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Ocotber 14, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in Snow's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Fred Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Memorial Park.
