Mrs. Nathalee M. Allen Obituary

[Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mrs. Nathalee M. Allen, age 88, Vidalia, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia.

She was a native of Colquitt County. She was a cook in the Colquitt County School System and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Iverson Murphy and Mattie M. Murphy, her husband, Charlie C. Allen, one brother, Douglas Murphy, and one grandson, Phillip C. Murphy.

Survivors include two sons, and daughters-in-law, C. Irvin and Dorothy Murphy, Lyons, and Wayne and Beverly Allen, Dothan, Alabama; one brother, Rufus Murphy, Moultrie; three grandchildren, Kenneth D. Murphy, Sharon Crumpton and Ashley Allen; and five great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Murphy, Ashley Murphy, Chane Crumpton, Casey Crumpton and Mallory Allen.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 10, 2004, at 3:30 p.m. in the Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home of Moultrie with Rev. Kenneth D. Murphy and Rev. Terry Webb officiating. Interment followed in the Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the local arrangements.

Mr. George Anderson Obituary

[Kite, Johnson County, Georgia]

Mr. George Anderson, age 86, Kite, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, in Swainsboro Nursing Home of Swainsboro after an extended illness.

He was a native of Toombs County, living in the area for most of his live and later moving to Emanuel County. He was a retired farmer and a member of Harden's Chapel Methodist Church. He was receded in death by one son, Benny Earl Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Earleen Mosley Anderson, Kite; three daughters, Birdie A. Roundtree, Macon, Annie Helen Nasworthy, Pembroke, and Elanor A. Nasworthy, Kite; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday May 11, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Joe Phillips and Rev. Bob Rathburn officiating. Interment followed in the Harden's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Joe Barber Obituary

[Glenwood, Wheeler County, Georgia]

Mr. Joe Barber, age 53, Glenwood, died Friday, May 7, 2004 in the Wheeler County Hospital of Glenwood after an extended illness.

He was a native of Wheeler County and had resided most of his life there. He was a truck driver, an U.S. Navy and U.S. Armyn Veteran, and a member of Glenwood First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Tommie L. Barber.

Survivors include one daughter, Kristy D. Barber, Jacksonville, Florida; his mother, Corinne Barber, Glenwood; three brothers, Lewis Barber, Grier, S.C., Jacob Barber and Alec Barber, both of Glenwood; three sisters, Anna Ryals, Dublin, Etta Varnadoe, Hazlehurst, and Alecia Holmes, Woodbine; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 9, 2004, at 4:30 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Glenwood with Rev. W.R. Connell officiating. Interment followed in the Red Bluff Cemetery in Treutlen County.

Pallbearers were Daryl Hedrick, Johnny Hughes, Jamey Holmes, Ennis Ryals and Kevin Slate.

Dr. Larry E. Blount Obituary

[Athens, Clarke County, Georgia]

Dr. Larry E. Blount, age 53, Athens, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, in Athens Regional Medical Center of Athens.

He was a native of Toombs County. He was a Professor of Law at the University of Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; and three daughters, Carlene T. Dawson, Kenda Blount and Erin Blount.

Funeral services were donducted Friday, May 7, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Alston. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery of Vidalia.

Mrs. Ellen Chafin Obituary

[Rockledge, Laurens County, Georgia]

Mrs. Ellen Chafin, age 57, Rockledge, died Thursday, April 29, 2004.

She was a native of Bainbridge, Georgia. She was a retired Director of Windsor Forest Baptist Church Day Care and Early Education, Savannah, and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church near Dublin. She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Earl Gray.

Survivors include her husband, John Edward Chafin, Rockledge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cynthia Chafin, Rockledge, Greg and Cathy Chafin, Savannah, Steve and Renee Chafin, Kingsland; her mother and step-father, Irene and Rev. Eldridge Willis, Brunswick; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bunny and Allan Cover, Yulee, Florida, Susan and Harrell Wiggins, Vidalia, and Pam and Mark Taylor, Acworth, Georgia; one brother and sisters-in-law, Colin and Rita Gray, Yulee; and seven grandchildren, Savannah Lively, Adam Lively, Hayden Chafin, Caitlyn Chafin, Brannon Chafin, Jessica Chafin and Steven Ty Chafin.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 30, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Saubes, Rev. Randy Mimbs and Rev. Eldridge Willis officiating. Interment followed in the Thigpen Cemetery, Rockledge.

Pallbearers were Don Garrett, Ragan Green, Mike Dryden, Jack Dean, Ronnie Green, John Scarboro and Tim Brantley. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Lively and Brannon Chafin, grandsons.

Mrs. Blenida Yvette Green, age 37, Vidalia, died Monday, May 3, 2004, in Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia.

She was a native of Toombs County.

Survivors include one son, Bryan Green, Vidalia; one daughter, Brittany Green, Vidalia; and her mother, Martha Lockhart, Vidalia.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Solomon Tabernacle Baptist Church of Vidalia. Interment followed in the Eternal Glory Gardens of Vidalia.

Mr. Robin Horton Obituary

[Mt. Vernon, Montgomery County, Georgia]

Mr. Robin Horton, age 40, Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was a carpenter and was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include two sons, Tyler and Mason Horton, Mt. Vernon; his parents, Pete and Janice Horton, Mt. Vernon; one sister, Tonya Ward, Mt. vernon; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 10, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. W.R. Connell and Rev. Felton Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were David Burkett, Jim Burkett, Mike Burkett, Chris Powell, Doug Phillips and Lauren Fuller. Honorary pallbearers were John Hogue, Ransom Beane and Bobby Joe Ward.

Mrs. Ollie Rabun James Obituary

[Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mrs. Ollie Rabun James, age 92, Lyons, died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Meadows Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Toombs County and was a retired inspector with Globe, Oxford and Cedar Crossing manufacturing companies and a member of the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wildren James, Her parents, Alfonza and Mary Frances Rabun, one son, Russell James and one grandson, Rusty James.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Connie and Tina Furr, Lyons, and Shan McRae, Jesup; one daughter-in-law, Tommie W. James, Lyons; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. in the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Tucker, Rev. Bill Lee and Rev. Danny Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Marcus J. McCall Obituary

[Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mr. Marcus J. McCall, age 53, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.

He was a Tattnall County native and lived in Collins many years until he moved to Lyons. He was employed with Trane Company of Vidalia as a machine operator. He was a member of Collins First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn McCall.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Winge McCall, Lyons; two sons and daughter-in-law, Josh McCall, New York City and Chad and Debbie McCall, Oregon; one stepson, Shane Roberson, Lyons; his parents, Julian and Ruby McCall, Collins; two brothers, John McCall, Macon and Terrell McCall, Blackshear; one granddaughter, one stepgrandson, Jordan Robinson; two nieces; and two nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 2, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville with pastor Don Gibbs officiating. Interment followed in the Collins First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jan McCall, Johnny McCall, Jimmy McDaniel, Bobby Holland, Jim Bloodworth and Derrell Thigpen, Sr.

Mr. Frank E. McQuaig Obituary

[Stover, Morgan County, Missouri]

Mr. Frank E. McQuaig, age 68, Stover, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at his home.

He was a native of Alma, Georgia. He served 20 years as a veteran of the United States Air Force, and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He worked as a security officer at Georgia Power in Baxley with Gates Rubber Company in Versailles, Missouri, and co-owned the Pastry Garden in Stover. He served as vice president of the Elks Lodge in Vidalia to Stover, where he was active in the Stover Lions Club and the Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343. He was a charter member and served as the First chairman of the congregatin at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waycross. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Estelle Whitehead McQuaig.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Ford McQuaig; two daughters, Belinda Dalrymple, Springtown, Texas, and Angie Ellis, Swainsboro, North Carolina; one brother, O.J. McQuaig, Freeport, Texas; his stepmother, Martha McQuaig, Waycross; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. in the Stover United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Interment followed with full military honors in the Stover Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Missouri River Hospice.

Mr. John L. Riddles Obituary

[Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mr. John L. Riddles, age 57, Vidalia, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in the Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after a sudden illness.

He was a native of Hall County, living many years in Atlanta and later moving to Vidalia. He was an independent insurance agent, served in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman during the Vietnam war and was an elder member of the Vidalia Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Riddles, Vidalia; one daughter, Allison Riddles, Vidalia; and one sister, Fay R. Tripp, Macon.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 9, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Vidalia Presbyterian Church with Elder Jay Warthen officiating. Committal service and interment followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Fort Valley, Georgia.

Pallbearers were Howard Holman, Bobby Stanely, Guy Branch, Tom Metzler, Mike Holland and Massie McIntyre.

Mrs. Zelda Slomer, age 81, Stockbridge, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in the Christian Ministries Hospice of Riverdale after an extended illness.

She was a native of Tattnall County, living most of her live in Toombs County before moving to Stockbridge. She was a homemaker and attended the Faith Asembly of God in Lyons.

Survivors include her husband, Andrew G. Slomer, Stockbridge; three sons, Gordon Marty Slomer, Stockbridge, Andrew Thomas Slomer, McDonough, and Kelvin Lamar Slomer, Stockbridge; one grandson, Christopher Lamar Slomer, McRae; one brother, Henry Akins, Lyons; three sisters, Inez Davis, Lyons, Mildred Anderson, Collins, and Cleo Jacobs, Tyrone; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 10, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service of Vidalia with Rev. Allen Mathura officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Pallbearers wer Chris Williamson, Grey Williamson, Jeffrey Jacobs, Albert Akins, Hubert Akins and Joseph Akins.

Mrs. Tudie Walker Thompson, age 100, Ailey, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. She was a homemaker and an active member of Ailey Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McGee Thompson, and three children, Ed, Evelyn and Don.

Survivors include seven children, Louise Braddy, Vidalia, Wade Thompson, Ailey, Rev. Alec and Tina Thompson, Forsyth, Fay and Jackie Thompson, Ailey, Mrytle and Carl Lehman, Power Springs, and Marian and Clyde Dunn, Milner; one daughter-in-law, Bernice Thompson, Vidalia; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 7, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Roger Branch officiating. Interment followed in the Glen Thompson Cemetery.

Smith, Lyons, and Ray Smith, Cedar Grove, Georgia; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Quinell “Snook” Wilder, age 81, Uvalda, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at her daughter's residence after an extended illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. She was a homemaker and a member of Charolette United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Han Wilder, and one son, Dixie Wilder.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Larry Williamson, Uvalda; one daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Wilder, Vidalia; one grandson, Thad Williamson, Uvalda; one siter, Jewell Foskey, Uvalda; two brother, Cecil Conner, Uvalda, and J.B. Conner, Brunseick.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 9, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. David Aycock and Rev. Clarence Cawthon officiating. Interment follwed in the Conner Family Cemetery near Uvalda.

Acitve pallbearers were Gary Martin, Bill Henry Mincey, Kyle Rollins, Andy Anderson, Danny Thigpen and Britt Baker. Honorary pallbearers were Perry Conner, Terry Manning, Johnny Cason, Dean Dopson, Thurston Fulford and Joe Burke.
