Dr. Amos Barfield, 76, Obituary
[Dasher, Lowndes County, Georgia]
Dr. Amos Barfield, age 76, Dasher, Georgia, died Monday, February 14, 2005, in Valdosta.
He was a native of Montgomery County. He was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. He was associated with Lake Park Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Care of Valdosta, Moody Veterinary Services and the Lowndes County Animal Shelter. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Jasper and Essie Hamilton Barfield, his wife, Jacquelyn Barfield and a brother, Edgar Barfield.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Lea and Tim Thornhill, Dasher, and Carole Barfield, Rutledge, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Lauree Barfield, Dobson, N.C., and Ken and Barbara Barfield, Raleigh, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Noah Thornhill, Rebecca Turner, Lydia Thornhill, Emily McNeal, Mikhail Barfield, Alex Barfield, Aleena Barfield, Sammie Barfield, Thomas Barfield and Sarah Barfield; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Irpeel and Thel Balaxton, Vidalia, and Joyce and Jack Devitt, Hephzibah, Ga.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, G.W. and Betty Barfield, Douglasville, Ga; two sisters-in-law, Frankie Barfiled, Jacksonville, Fla., and Epsie Lee Barfield, Vidalia; and friend, Jeanette Faucette.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 18, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Tommy McNeal officiating. Interment followed in McLane River Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Ruby T. Bazemore, age 95, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, in Riverview Rehab and Care Center.
She was a native of Emanuel County, residing most of her life in Savannah and Vidalia, later moving to Tomahawk, WI. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tomahawk. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond D. Smith, Jr., her second husband, Glen H. Bazemore, two brothers, two sisters, her parents, and one great-grandson.
Survivors include one son, William R. Smith, Tomahawk; one sister, Nel Smith, Savannah; three grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, Richfield, MN, Roger Smith, St. Mary’s, PA, and Michael Smith, Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, February 27, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Tomahawk with Rev. Rebecca Niese officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Vita Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund or any other charity of your choice.

Mrs. Alam Bargeron Braswell, age 68, Evans, died Friday, February 18, 2005, in the MCG Medical Center of August.
She was a native of Evans, Georgia. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Saints Sunday School class and the Red Hat Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny J. Braswell, Sr. and one son, William V. Beasley.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Lewis Bargeron, Evans; one son, Johnny J. Braswell, Jr., Evans; four daughters and sons-in-law, Hilda and Gary Salter, Harrington, Florida, Teresa B. and Gene Frazier, Augusta, Cindy B. Fulcher, Augusta, and Krystal B. and Timothy McManus, Waynesboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Janice Bargeron, and Eddie and Martha Bargeron, all of Evans; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 21, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. in Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. K.C. Stevens and Rev. Vivian Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Neal Salter, Pete Durham, Lanny Frazier, Shawn Snellings, Jed Davis and Lee Wilcher. Honorary pallbearer was John Howell.

Mrs. Lenora Chambers Burkett, age 63, of Uvalda, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, in Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia following a short illness.
The Toombs County native lived her lifetime in the area. She was a teacher at Toombs Central Elementary School for 28 years, a member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher for a number of years, and active in anonymous mission work and church camps.
Survivors include her husband, Willie T. Burkett, Uvalda; two daughters, Lori Ann Burkett and husband, Leon Edenfield, Uvalda, and Macie Burkett Ownes and husband, David, Vidalia; one son, William Tim Burkett and wife, Jamie; her mother, Myrtice Chambers; two grandchildren, Morgan and Blaine Burkett, Uvalda; three sisters, Nellie parker, Dorothy Brantley, and Beverly Carpenter, all of Uvalda; three brothers, Ronnie, Steve, and Wyman Chambers, all of Uvalda; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 18, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. in the Smyrna United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Aycock ant the Rev. Charles Puryear officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Marty and Willie Burkett, Jason, Brian and Shannon Chambers, and Adam Carpenter.

Mr. David Collins, age 60, of Ailey, died Monday, February 14, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was a native of Tattnall County, living most of his life in Montgomery County, and was a contractor. H was a member of the Vidalia Church of God. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Collins, and a brother, J.B. Collins.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Collins, Ailey; three daughters, Janet Rogers and husband Jeff, Soperton, Sheri McVea and husband Brad, Vidalia, and Dana Roundtree and husband Andrew, Oak Park; one sister, Sharon Collins, Collinsp; three brothers, Lamar Collins, Ailey, Kenneth Collins, Riverview, Fla., and Phillips Collins, Collins; six grandchildren, Emily Gillis Jeremy, Jeffery, and Judson Rogers, and Daniel and Ethan Horne; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 17, 2005, at 11:00 p.m. in the Vidalia Church of God with the pastor, the Rev. Joe Q. Smith, and the Rev. David Edenfield officiating. Interment followed in McCrimmon cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ellis, Mike randy, Kevin and Keith Collins and Daniel Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers were John Peterson, Buddy Strickland, Phillip Overstreet, Arlie Horne, Richard Mead, James Brantley, Richard Dixon, Michael Keating, Russell Burkett, Terry Durrence and Taylor Hart.

Mr. Willie Hall, age 76, Uvalda, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a native of Morgan County, residing in Uvalda for many years. He was a retired nuclear plant foreman and was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Hall, and one grandson, Marty Galbreath.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara McNatt, Elaine Widener and Debra Collins, all of Lyons; one brother, J.W. Hall, Lithonia; three sisters, Nellie Statp, Madison, Sarah Hallman, Eatonton, and Florence Bellew, Hazelhurst; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 21, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Bobby Toole and Rev. Steven Toole officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Donnie Bellew, Tom Bellew, Chris Foskey, Freddie Moore, David Beasley and Wendell Pickren.

The native and lifelong resident of Wheeler County was co-owner and operator of Gertrude’s Florist for 41 years. He retired from the Georgia Forestry Commission and was a veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the NOAH Senior Citizen Organization of Glenwood and a member o the First Baptist Church of Glenwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude S. Joiner, in 2002, his father and mother, Oscar H. and Edna Ryals Joiner, a brother, Melton Joiner, two sisters, Aleen Joiner Lutz, and Maggie Joiner Calhoun, and a granddaughter, Michelle Angela Horton.
Survivors include one daughter, Yvonne Stone Butler, Cochran; one son, Don Leon Stone, McRae; granddaughters, Melanie Eubanks, Cochran, Yvette Tilton, Fayetteville, Ga., and Susan Russell, Vidalia; two grandson, Michael Horton, Atlanta, and Don Christopher Russell, North Charleston, S.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan Chadwick Eubanks, Sacramento, California, Ashley Bowie, Cochran, Joshua Caleb Eubanks, Cochran, Kaci Michelle Cothren and Kristi Nicole Cothren, Fayetteville, Tracey Shane Sibley, West Virginia, and Victoria Paige Horton, Macon, Ga.; two great-great-grandchildren, Sierra Nicole Eubanks, Sacramento, and Trinity Jade Bowie, Cochran; four nephews, Jerry Calhoun and Ted Calhoun, Dublin, and Haika Lutz and Kali Lutz, Hawaii; five nieces, Regina Lutz, Hawaii, Elainie Joiner, Alamo, Melody Soles, Stockbridge, Christy Turnbow, Dublin, and Momi Fitchett, Hawaii.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 18, 2005, at 1:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Glenwood with the Rev. Dan Zellner and the Rev. Paul Brown officiating. Interment followed in Glenwood City Cemetery.

Mrs. Clyde Hamilton McDonald, age 91, of Tarrytown, died Thursday, February 17, 2005, in Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County, a homemaker, and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ennis C. McDonald, and a granddaughter Denise Hockensmith.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Frank Fountain, Mt. Vernon; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Ann McDonald, Vidalia; one sister, Doris Gutwin, Swainsboro; one brother, Jack Hamilton, Baxley, five grandchildren, Bart and Barry McDonald, Vidalia, Debra Adams, Mt. Vernon, Diane Born, Vidalia, and Danny Fountain, Mt. Vernon; 11 great-grandchildren, Charlie, Chasen, Danielle, Dalton, Daniel, Ashley, Benjamin, Hunter, Carson, Holly, and Karlie; two great-great-grandchildren, Rome and Tate; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Tipton officiating. Interment followed in McDonald Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Fountain, Bart and Barry McDonald, Charlie Dixon, Chasen Born, and Ben Hockensmith.

Mrs. Lallage Morris, age 89, Glenwood, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, in Memorial Health University Medical Center of Savannah after a brief illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. She was a homemaker, a member of Glenwood Senior Citizens and a member of Stuckey Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Morris.
Survivors include four daughters, Nolie Williams and Vonnie Hart, both of Uvalda, Jean Couey, Glenwood, and Dorothy Gordon, Alston; two sons, Charles Morris, Vidalia, and Johnny Morris, Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Inez Garris, Lakeview, S.C., and Hazel Lee Paige, Dillon, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 18, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. in Stuckey Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Sharpe Family Cemetery near Ailey.
Pallbearers were Michael Hart, Keith Couey, Todd Gordon, Joy Morris, Richie Morris, Heath Hart and Matt Morris.

Mr. Phillip William Raiford, age 74, Vidalia, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness.
The Vidalia native was an Eagle Scout, business owner, family man, and Child of God.
Survivors include his wife, Augustina Raiford; sons, Steve, George, Joe, and Frank; grandchildren, John, Jacob, Madeleine, Mattie, and Meredith; nephew, Beau Hudson; niece, Maria Sasser; and other nephews and nieces.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 18, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in Pinecrest Cemetery with Bob Dixon, Jr., officiating.
