Mr. Eugene Franklin Bellamy, Obituary

[Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mr. Eugene Franklin Bellamy, Vidalia, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, at his residence.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Bellamy, Vidalia; one son, Anthony Woodrow Bellamy, Lyons; three daughters, Nicole Bellamy, Louise McRae Hall and Toddashia Walker, all of Vidalia; two sisters, Hattie Toler, Brunswick, and Lessie Mae Corbett, Vidalia; eight grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 5, 2005, in the chapel of Vidalia Funeral Home with Rev. H.W. Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Old Salem Cemetery of Uvalda.

Mr. Jimmy Don Burke, 58, Obituary

[Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mr. Jimmy Don Burke, age 58, Lyons, died Friday, March 11, 2005.

He was a native of Screven County. He was a maintenance technician. He was a Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Madge Roberts Burke, and one brother, Edward Burke.

Surviviros include two daughters and son-in-law, Angie and Trent Hall, Swainsboro, and Tammy Cauley, Lyons; two sisters, Carol B. Williams, Sylvania, and Jean B. Bragg, Valdosta; two brothers, Roy Burke, Sr., Sylvania, and Emory Burke, Paxton, Florida; three grandchildren, Kevin Hudson, Swainsboro, and Paige Cauley and Dylan Cauley, Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. in the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania. Interment will follow in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Sally Ann Thigpen Dixon, 92, Obituary

[Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia]

Mrs. Sally Ann Thigpen Dixon, age 92, Vidalia, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, in Bethany Home Nursing Center after a brief illness.

She was a native of Laurens County, living most of her life in the Toombs County area. She was a homemaker and a member of South Thompson Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.A. "Preacher" Dixon.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Jean D. and Richard Thompson, Gwen Miller, Marguite and W.L. Dykes, all of Vidalia, and Ruth and David Hochstetler, Mt. Vernon; three sons and daughters-in-law, James A. and Wanda Dixon, Carlinville, Illinois, John A. Dixon, Vidalia, and Allen and Kim Dixon, Hickory, North Carolina; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Winge and Rev. Greg Riner officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James and Kenneth Thompson, Mike and Time Dixon, Wes Miller and Bobby Dykes.

[Dexter, Laurens County, Georgia]

Ms. Ginger Darlene Holton Greenfield, age 41, Dexter, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in a Savannah hospital.

She was a native of Toombs County. She was employed by Middle Georgia Easter Seals. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles W. Holton and one brother, Joey C. Holton.

Survivors include her companion, Malcom "Mike" Warren, Dublin; two children, Aaron Greenfield, Dexter, and Angela Greenfield, Billigs, Montana; her mother, Linda Knight Parrish, Vidalia; two brothers, Danny W. Holton, Dexter, and Billy Farrell, Columbus, MS; one step-sister, Linda Brannen, Savannah; her grandmother, Bernice Knight, Vidalia; one granddaughter, Carolyn Greenfield; and several cousins, nieces and newphews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in the Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Peavy officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Eula Pearl Powell Johnson, age 83, Lyons, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in the Toombs Nursing Home of Lyons after an extended illness.

She was a native of Johnson County, living most of her life in the Toombs County area. She was retired from Lyons Manufacturing Company and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Lyons.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Gearldine "Jerry" and Dan Mitchell, Vidalia, Grace and Ed Thigpen, Mt. Vernon, Evelyn and James Odom, Ashland, Alabama, and Linda and Wendell Harvey, Lyons; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Susan Johnson, Baxley, Donnie and Judy Johnson, Lyons, and Louie Wayne and Debbie Johnson, Lyons; one brother, Lewis Powell, Lyons; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services wee conducted Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Rev. Don Gibbs and Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating. Interment followed in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Howard Thigpen, Tommy Odom, Craig, Keith and Ronnie Johnson, Mike Way, Clay and John Mitchell and Travis Harvey.

Mr. Joe Martin, 83, Obituary

[Uvalda, Montgomery County, Georgia]

Mr. Joe Martin, age 83, Uvalda, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in the Meadows Nursing Center in Vidalia after an extended illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was retired from the Department of Corrections and the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II. He was an active member of Uvalda United Methodist Church and a member of Milliken Creek Masonic Lodge #302.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian M. Martin, Uvalda; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Earl Rodgers, Uvalda; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Pollyann Martin, Vidalia; five grandchildren and spouses, Savanna Martin, Robbie Rodgers, Ryan and Jilly Rodgers, Rusty and Eve Rodgers, and Reid and Tamra Rodgers; and four great-grandchildren, Neal, Carmen, Kristen and Morgan Rodgers.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 7, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in the Uvalda United Methodist Church with Rev. David Aycock and Rev. Joe Phillips officiating. Interment followed in the Uvalda City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Lamont Craft, Harold and Matt Mobley, Martin and Lloyd Moses and Malcolm Claxton. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Dopson, Benny Dees, Donald Currie, Billy Williams, Gary Wilson and Paul Carlson.

Mrs. Grace D. Lewis McLain, age 96, Lyons, died Tuesday, March 7, 2005, at Bethany Assisted Living in Vidalia.

She was a native of Baker County, Florida, living most of her life in the Blue Ridge Community of Toombs County. She was a senior member of Marietta Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jewell V. Lewis, and her second husband, Wilis McLain.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Van and Betty Lewis, Lyons, Durwood and Earlene Lewis, Altavista, VA, Jimmy and Tracy Lewis, Vidalia, and Wilton and Leila Lewis, Macon; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 11, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Marietta Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Irvin Murphy and Dr. Ralph Lightsey officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Dan Bullard, Larry Lewis, Jerry Lewis, Glen Lewis, Stan Lewis and Joe Roberts.

Ms. Mary Nell Nolan, age 76, Ailey, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was a native of Wheeler County, living in Toombs County for many years. She was retired from Savannah Luggage and was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Belinda Woods, Ailey, and Judy Meade, Macon; three sons, Wendell Nolan, Normantown, Larry Meade, Macon, and Glynn Meade, Gitmo, Cuba; one brother Jackie McBride, Milledgeville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 13, 2005, at 100:00 in Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service, Glenwood Chapel, with rev. Rodney Gibbs officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood City Cemetery.

[Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia]

Miss Lucille Sophronia "Phronia" Oatts, age 78, Vidalia, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in the Bethany Home Nursing Center in Vidalia after an extended illness.

She was a native of Jenkins County, later moving to Bethany Home in Vidalia. She was employed with Shriners Children Hospital in Atlanta.

Survivors include one brother, John "Bucky" Oatts, Richmond, Virginia; friend, Sharon Winge, Vidalia; and her Bethany Family.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 11, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Bethany Home Nursing Center with Rev. David Blalock officiating. Interment followed at 2:00 p.m. in the Millen City Cemetery in Millen, Georgia.

Pallbearers were Terry Findley, Robert Collins, Justin Aaron, Sylvia Williams, Linda Johnson and Bess Pope.

Mr. Joe Brown Pollette, age 91, Uvalda, died Monday, March 7, 2005, in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was a retired barber and a member of Uvalda Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wina Thelma Harrell Pollette, Uvalda; one daughter, Ginger Pollette, Brooksville, Fla.; one son, Charles Odom, Dublin; one grandson, John Pollette, Brooksville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. David Aycock and Rev. Joe Phillips officiating. Interment followed in the Uvalda City Cemetery.

Mr. James Edward Sharpe, age 77, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at his residence in Bainbridge, Georgia.

He was a native of Miami, Florida, living in Georgia for many years. He was a retired printing pressman and Presbyterian by faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Belle Humphreys Sharpe, his father and step-mother, Bennette Hill Sharpe, Sr. and Elsie Cook Sharpe, and one sister, Ellen Ann Neidkowski.

Survivors include his exwife, Evelyn Sharpe, Whigham; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Patricia Sharpe, Vidalia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Poitevint, Lakeland, Florida, and Cheryl and Frank Herrington, Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Bennette H. Sharpe, Jr., Sunrise, and Georgia Lee Bernhdart, London, England; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were conducted Thursday, March 10, 2005, in the Vidalia Church of God with Rev. Joe Q. Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Sharpe Cemetery with a private burial.

Mrs. Gwendolyn Jones Smith, age 76, Glennville, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.

She was a native of Toombs County. She was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church, where she served in numerous capacities. She was a retired teacher and was a member/officer of Delta Kappa Gama, Ga. Association of Educators and the Tattnall County Retired Educators. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert, Sr. and Bessie Alexander Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Maxwell Smith, Glennville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Celia and Wayne Anthony, Memphis, Tenn., Sylvia and Judd Bailey, Hartwell, and Laura and Kerry Allen, Bonaire; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Phyllis Smith, Glennville, and Daniel and Tabitha Smith, Glennville; two brothers, Roy A. Jones, St. Louis, MO, and Herbert Jones, Jr., Rincon; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 11, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Glennville United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Interment followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Zelma Corbin Williamson, 83, Obituary

[Emanuel County, Georgia]

Mrs. Zelma Corbin Williamson, age 83, of Emanuel County, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Emanuel Medical center Nursing Home in Swainsboro after an extended illness.

She was a native of Emanuel County. She was a member of Pendleton Spring Baptist Church near Oak Park, a member of the David Emanuel Chapter of the United Daughters of Confederacy and a member of the Adam Brinson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, G.B. Williamson.

Survivors include one daughter, Olivia Saffold, Emanuel County; two sons, Richard Jonathan Williamson, Sr. and Michael Williamson, both of Emanuel County; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 14, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pendleton Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Walter Jarriel officiating. Interment followed in the Solomon Williamson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Williamson, Greg Williamson, Allen Morris, Drayton Oliver, Richard Williamson, Jr. and James Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were Kermit Phillips, A.C. Saffold, Bennie Williamson, Bobby Williamson, Harry Phillips, Bernard Hall, Curtis Corbin, Darvin Corbin, Don Corbin, Hildrie Corbin, Ashley Corbin, Buddy Morris, Frank Mumby, Dr. Robert Mumby and Dale Morris.
