Mrs. Jessie Jones Beasley

Mrs. Jessie Jones Beasley, age 92, Vidalia, died Monday, March 18, 2002, in Bethany Nursing Center following an extended illness.

The Montgomery County native had resided most of her life in Toombs County. She was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Crossing Baptist Church, where she served as pianist for many years.

Survivors include one son, Corbitt Beasley, Uvalda; three daughters, Elizabeth Grace, Uvalda, Velma Nail, Reidsville, and Helen Owings, St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services wer conducted Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in Cedar Crossing Paptist Church with the Reverend Darrell Harn and the Reverend Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Jones-Stewart Funeral Home of Lyons was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Ruby Lee Caraway Cartrette

Mrs. Ruby Lee Caraway Cartrette, age 90, formerly of Ailey, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Bethany Nursing Center following an extended illness.

The native and lifelong Montgomery County resident was a homemaker and a member of New Corinth Baptist Church. She was prededed in death by her husband, Frank Cartrette, and sons Maurice Cartrette and Merritt Cartrette.

Survivors include two daughers, Donna Jean Johnson and Janet Braddy, both of Ailey; four sisters, Nola Mae Gordon, Uvalda, Inez Callahan and Myrtle Dean Callahan, both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Frankie DeGiacoma, Syracuse, N.Y.; one brother, Delton Caraway, Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend Bob Corley and the Reverend Jimmy Smith officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Robert Glenn Braddy, Michael E. Braddy, Jerry W. Braddy, Michael E. Braddy, Jr., Glenn Mitchell and Jeff Vreeland.

Mrs. Wanda Gibson Adams-Causey

Mrs. Wanda Gibson Adams-Causey, Atlanta, died Monday, March 11, 2002.

The Folkston, Ga., native was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company, and attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Craig Adams; one brother, Ben Gibson, Swainsboro; and three grandsons.

Memorial services were conducted Thursday, March 14, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Hancock and the Reverend Dr. H. Dan Rice officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 16, 2002, at 2:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.

A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Service of the Atlanta area was in charge of the funeral arrangments.

Ms. Mildred Herring

Ms. Mildred Herring, age 93, Summers Landing, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Meadows Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Toombs County. She attended Vidalia High School, Bessie Tift College in Forsyth and Georgia Southern College. She taught school in Tarrytown, Metter, McRae and Vidalia, retiring from the Vidalia School System in 1974 with 40 years service. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of First Baptist Church, The Fidelis Sunday School Class, and she taught Sunday School for 25 years.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Richard S. Herring, Sr. and Mary Herring, Vidalia; and three nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. from the Caapel of the Murchison Funeral Home with Reverend Don Moye and Reverend Scott McHugh officating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Glen Phillips, Terry Phillips, Richard Herring, Jr., Norwood Rhodes, Bud Corley and Bill Hodges.

Mr. William Harley Lynn

Mr. William Harley Lynn, age 73, Perry, Ga., died Sunday, March 17, 2002.

The Lyons native was former U.S. Marine, serving in China at the end of World War II. He was a pilot, a salesman of general aviation, and a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was prededed in death by two grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Kathryn Lynn, Conyers, and Dr. Carl W. and Kathy Lynn, Sky Valley, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary L. and Lane Tyson, Suwanee, Ga., and Diana M. and Jeff Rowlls, Lafayette, Ga.; his mother, Marie Boyett Lynn, Lyons; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Floyd Sapp, Lyons, and Rose and Dudley McCullum, Savannah; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in Providence Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Carl W. Lynn, Nicholas J. Lynn, Joshua Bartlett, Nathan Bartlett, Lee Sapp and Mickey Lynn. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew P. Rowlls, Floyd Sapp and William "Bud" Hart.

Mrs. Deloris Parker

Mrs. Deloris Parker, Lyons, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her residence.

She was a native of Tattnall County.

Survivors include one son, Stevie Parker, Lyons; four daughters, Iveory Bently, Magnolia, Texas, Crystal Mason and Annette Bobbitt, both of Lyons, and Darlene Gaines, Vidalia; her mother, Ina Mae Harris, Sr., Lyons; one brother, James E. Harris, Sr., Lyons; 11 sisters, Mildred Hailey and Atlanese Harris, both of Hinesville, Bernice Mincey, Vidalia, Cheryl Walton, Higgston, Latrele Lewis, Corneluis Harris and Elaine Morgan, all of Reidsvilee, Janice Flemer, Louisville, Ky., Linda breffee, Knoxville, Ky., Brenda Harris, Gainesvill, Ga., and Wanda Sue Perez, South Carolina; 13 Grandchildren; and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 25, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. in Bethel A.M.E. Church in Reidsville with the Reverend Johnny Lewis delivering the eulogy. Interment followed in Organy Mills Cemetery in Reidsville.

Vidalia Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Eunice M. Douglas Roberts

Mrs. Eunice M. Douglas Roberts, age 91, Soperton, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Treutlen Nursing Home.

The Laurens County native was a daughter of the late Chauncy and Ida Bussell Mills. She had resided in Swainsboro before relocating to Soperton. She was a member of trinity Assembly of God, and was preceded in death by her husbands, Emmett Douglas and Mack Roberts.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ellen and Wendell Hamrick, Lyons; one sister, Mady Thigpen, Soperton; four grandchildren, Lisa Davis and Greg Hamrick, both of Atlanta, Cindy Chapman, Richmond Hill, and Andy Hamrick, Hazlehurst; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton with the Reverend James Rayburn and the Reverend Jason Corbett officiating. Interment followed in Harmoney Cemetery in Soperton

Master Sgt. Andrew Jacob "A.J." Sanders

Master Sgt. Andrew Jacob "A.J." Sanders, age 81, Lyons, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at his daughter's residence in Marietta following a brief illness.

The Toombs County native returned to Toombs County in 1977. He was a retired farmer and iron worker, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle N. Sanders, Lyons; one daughter, Nancy S. Wharton, Marietta; one son, Carl Andrew Snaders, Cartersville, Ga.; two sisters, Helen Calhoun, Uvalda, and Ann Brewer, Atlanta; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 22, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in Providence Baptist Church with the Reverend James Wilcox officating, Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie Brewer, Steve Calhoun, Lamar Calhoun, Robert Sharpe, Wilton Sanders, Jimmy Nix, Hugh McNatt and Bob Carr. There were also several honorary pallbearers.
