Mrs. Lola Cobb

Mrs. Lola Mae Cobb, age 74, Lyons, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness.

The Toombs County native was a hairdresser and a Baptist by faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Hilliard and Gwendolyn Durham, both of Roselle, N.J.; one brother, John Davis, Lyons; one sister, Alma Arnold, Chicago, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 30, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul Baptist Church in Lyons with Bishop James Holland delivering the eulogy. Interment followed in Hillsboro Cemetery in Lyons.

Vidalia Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Henry Fulford

Mr. Henry Fulford, age 83, Alston, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.

The native and lifelong Montgomery County resident was a retired farmer and maintenance employee with the Montgomery County School System. He was a member of Milliken Creek Lodge and was Methodist by faith.

Survivors include three brothers, Dewitt Fulford, San Mato, Fla., Thurston Fulford, Lyons, and Willie Frank Smith, Milledgeville; one sister, Carolyn O'Neal, Lyons; one grandson, William Fulford, Alston; and one daughter-in-law Carolyn Fulford, Alston.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 1, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Reverend marvin Leggett officiating. Interment followed in Sharpe Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Harold Powell, Terrell Fulford, Curtis Willis, Danny Kay Powell, Franklin Smith and Lauren Hutto. Honorary pallbearers were Mays Dobbins, Benny Dees, Nunnie Smith, Edwin McBride, paul Downie, Joel Outler, Gleen Outler, Bernard Foskey and S.L. Galbreath.

Mrs. Evie Ogburn

Mrs. Evie Ivey Ogburn, Vidalia, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Bethany Nursing Center following an extended illness.

The McDuffie County native relocated to Vidalia in 1954. She was a nursing assistant at Bethany Home for more than 20 years, and was a member of Vidalia Baptist Temple.

Surviviors include two daughters, Bonnie Williamson, Vidalia, and Billie Wardlaw, Augusta; one son, Lloyd Ogburn, Austell; one sister, Norma Logan, North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services wer conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in Vidalia Baptist Temple with the pastor, the Reverend Paul Thompson, officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jody Williamson, Jeffrey Williamson, Bud Wardlaw, David Wardlaw, Jason Davis, Monty Davis, Jerry Moxley and John Beall.

Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mr. James Stephens

Mrs. James E. Stephens, age 55, Lyons, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, in St. Joseph's Hospital of Savannah following a extended illness.

The native and lifelong Toombs County resident was a heavy equipment operator and attended South Thompson Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie Stephens, Illinois, and Amanda Stephens, Lyons; one son, Jonathan Stephens, Illinois; three sisters, Nell Owl, Cherokee, N.C., Blonnie Williamson, Oak Park, and Louise Thigpen, Lyons; three brothers, Jack Stephens, Lyons, Lloyd Stephens, Baxley, and Donnie Stephens, Sylvester; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in South Thompson Baptist Church with the Reverend Ronald Cobb officiating. Interment followed.

Mr. William Adams

Mr. William A. Adams, Sr., age 75, Lyons, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at his residence.

The Waterman, Illinois, native had resided in Lyons since 1960. He was retired from Georgia Power as a security officer. He was aveteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Merchant Marines, and the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by hhis wife of 50 years, Reba Williamson Adams, in 1998.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Hammock, Lyons; two sons, William A. Adams, Jr., Savannah, andMichael Adams, Vidalia; one sister, MiJean Morrell, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, Fred K. Adams, Ft. White, Fla.; five grandchildren, Crystal allen and William Adams III, both of Savannah, Marissa Hammock, Lyons, Michael Adams, Lizella, and Michelle Crawford, Vidalia,; eight great-grandchildren, Dustin Allen, Summer Adams, Arielle Adams, Christian Adams, Alexander Adams, Breanna Adams, Autumn Crawford and Luke Crawford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 1, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend kelmer Durden and the Reverend Michael Branson officiating. Intrerment with military honors followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Michael G. Adams, William A. Adams III, Tim Allen, John Hammock, Jaimey Braddy and Jon Braddy.

Mrs. Tamae Brown

Mrs. Tamae Brown, age 72, Mt. Vernon, died Monday, April 1, 2002, in Wheeler County Hospital.

The Yokohama, Japan native had resided in Mt. Vernon for the past 35 years. She was co-owner/operator of Brown's Grocery in Mt. Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lonnie Brown.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, O'Rita Brown Raynor and Virginia Brown Connell, both of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Warthen officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Laurens County.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Connell, Russ Connell, Kenny Brown, Whit Brown, Aaron Brown and John Kennedy.

Mr. Reno Tapley

Mr. Reno Tapley, age 89, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in Candler County Hospital following an extended illness.

The Hazelhurst native was a graduate of Savannah State University with a B.S. in Chemistry, and a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn. He was a licensed mortician since 1936, owned and operated funeral homes in Swainsboro and Vidalia, and was a practicing embalmer throughout central and southeast Georgia, until his retirement in 1990. He was a member and steward of Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church in Swainsboro, and a longtime member of the Georgia Funeral Service and Practitioners Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Pughsley Tapley, Swainsboro, one niece, Sandra Logan, Atlanta; one nephew, Oliver Logan, Granger, Indiana; two cousins, Elizabeth Lowe and Dorothy Harleston, Hazlehurst; and other cousins, associates and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 1, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church in Swainsboro with the Reverend D.D. Davenport and the Reverend James Days officating. Interment followed in Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Mrs. Frankie Jackson

Mrs. Frankie Jean Jackson, age 62, Augusta, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Gracewood State Hospital and School in Augusta.

The Lyons native was the daughter of the late Jay Jackson and Jewell Jackson. She had resided in Augusta for the past 48 years, and was preceded in death by two brothers.

Survivors include her niece, Gail Jackson Higgs, Macon; sisters-in-law, Wllen Jackson and Colleen Jackson, both of Lyons, and Diane Jackson, Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services well be conducted Friday, April 5, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in Lyons City Cemetery wit the Reverend Grady Walden officating.

Mrs. Bernice Hopkins

Mrs. Bernice W. Hopkins, age 57, Oak Park, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta following a brief illness.

The native and lifelong Emanuel County resident was a retired bus driver and cafeteria employee with the Emanuel County School System. She was a member of United Fellowship Baptist Church of Oak Park.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Hopkins, Oak Park; one daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Anthony Jones, Oak Park; two granddaughters, Amanda Jones and Stephanie Jones, both of Oak Park; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Darvin and Emoline Williamson, Griffin, and Jerome and Joyce Williamson, Macon.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in United Fellowship Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Bryant officiating. Interment followed in Pendleton Springs Baptist Church Cemetery near Oak Park.

Pallbearers were Ronald Shaw, Terry Strange, Ricky Strange, Danny Dismuke, Gary Beasley, Charles Alyea and Irving Williamson.

Mrs. Dorothy Whiteley

Mrs. Dorothy Louise Whiteley, age 85, Vidalia, died Friday, March 29, 2002, in Bethany Nursing Center following an extended illness.

The Chestertown, Md., native was the daughte of the late Reuben Franklin Sr. and Janie Louise Williams Jamar. She had resided in Vidalia for the past 11 years. She was employed by Fisher's Hosiery Mill, Colonial Jewelers and Dr. Wm. J. Sieffert DDS. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kirby Whiteley, two brothers, and four sisters.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Jim Maley, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joanie and Curtis McCall, Vidalia; four sisters, Sarah Lillian Smith, Queen Anne, Md., Margaret Ann Silverman, Dayton, Ohio, Frances C. Everett, Chestertwon, and Christine "Minnie" Pletzer, Wye Mills, Md.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home of Chestertwon, Md. Interment followed in Chester Cemetery in Chestertown.
