Mrs. Helen Hutcheson

Mrs. Helen D. Hutcheson, age 55, Lyons, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at her residence following a sudden illness.

The Montgomery County native had resided in Lyons for the past 28 years. She was a homemaker and a member of North Thompson Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Barney J. Hutcheson, Lyons; three sons, Hugh Anthony Hutcheson, Barney D. Hutcheson and John Wesley Hutcheson, all of Lyons; three brothers, Danny Ray Darden and Ronnie Darden, both of Vidalia, and Bobby Darden, Cochran; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 29, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Reverend Charlie Edge officiating. Interment followed in North Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rusty Hutcheson, John Lowie, Benny Ray Gibson, Brian Kersey, Danny Haymon and Charlie Toler.

Mr. Edgar Morrison

Mr. Edgar Leon Morrison, age 83, a resident of Bethany Home Nursing Center and formerly of Lyons, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, following an extended illness.

The native and lifelong Toombs County resident was a retired farmer and manager of Thompson's Farm Supply in Lyons for 31 years. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II and was a member of New Branch United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Lanier Morrison, and his son Reginald L. Morrison.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Pam Humphrey Morrison, Vidalia; two sisters, Esther Thompson, Canton, and Velma Newsome, Vidalia; four brothers, Clifton Morrison, McKenley Morrison and Wyndell morrison, all of Vidalia, and nathaniel Morrison, Brusnwick; three grandchildren, Scott Morrison and Kimberly Morrison, both of Vidalia, and Brad Morrison, Savannah; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 1, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend Don Moye officating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Joel Newsome, Dale Newsome, Will Maybin, Thomas Maybin, Joe Hefner and Jason Jones.

Mrs. Marvelene Upton

Mrs. Marvelene Upton, age 72, Vidalia, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, in Meadows Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

The Treutlen County native had resided in Vidalia for the past 65 years. She was a retired Deli manager with Piggly Wiggly Southern and was a member of Smith street Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Upton, Cedartown, and Christopher Upton, Marietta; two sisters, Athena Glenn, Beaufort, S.C., and Carrie Morris, Vidalia; four grandchildren, Christie Upton, Jacksonville, Fla., Regina Greeson, Ballground, Timothy Upton, U.S. Navy Italy, and Christopher Upton, U.S. Marine Corps Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Reverend Ira Whitaker and the Reverend Jimmy Smith officiating. Interment followed in Boiling Springs Cemetery near Soperton.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 707 Miracle Lane, Vidalia, GA 30474.

Mr. William Palmer

Mr. William E. "Bill" Palmer, age 77, Vidalia, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta following a sudden illness.

The native and lifelong Montgomery County resident was a farmer and was retired from Brilad Oil Compnay. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, Todd Dickerson Post, and a member of the Vidalia Masonic Lodge. He was Mehodist by faith.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Mac Wells Palmer, Vidalia; one son, William P. "Billy" Palmer, Vidalia; one sister, Edna Duncan, Columbia, S.C.; three brothers, Curtis Palmer, Jacksonville, Fla., and Burnard Palmer and Wylie Palmer, both of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Heath Palmer and Todd Palmer, both of Vidalia; two great-grandchildren, Jennifer Palmer and Mason Palmer, both of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend Evelyn Duvall and the Reverend Murray Ward officiating. Interment followed in Sharpe's Cemetery near Alston.

Pallbearers were members of the Vidalia Maonic Lodge.

Miss. Paulina Castro

Miss.Paulina Ybarra Castro, infant daughter of Pauline and Rosendo L. Castro, Lyons, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in the Regional Medical Center of Vidalia.

Survivors include, other than her parents, her paternal grandparents, Margarita L. Castro and Jose G. Castro, Lyons; maternal grandparents, Elvira F. and Francisco R. Ybarra, Reidsville, one sister, Selena Castro, Lyons; and one brother, Rosendo Castro, Jr., Lyons.

Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lyons City Cemetery with Father Lorenzo Garcia officiating. Interment followed.

Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service of Vidalia was in charge of the arrangments.

Mrs. Carolyn Putnam

Mrs. Carolyn I. Putnam, age 62, Lyons, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, in La Fayette, Ga., following a sudden illness.

The Tampa, Fla., native had resided in Lyons for the past three years. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Assembly of God in Lyons.
