James W. "Jimmie" Cooper, 80, Obituary

Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia - James W. "Jimmie" Cooper, 80, died July 15 at home.

He was a native of Conemaugh, Pa., and lived in Lyons for the past 50 years. He was a 1949 honor graduate of Cincinnati College of Embalming. He was active in the funeral service for 42 years. He was retired owner and operator of Cooper Funeral Home in Lyons. He was Toombs County coroner for 16 years and an Army Air Corps veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 97 and VFW Post No. 3563, 50 year member of the Lyons Masonic Lodge No. 49 F&A.M., Alee Temple A.R.O.N.M.S., Sinai Chapter No. 30 Royal Arch, Omega No. 26 Grand Council of Georgia R&SM, past master of Vidalia Lodge No. 330F&A.M., former member of the Order of Amarantha Camellia Court No. 12, and a member of the Quint Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Vidalia Country Club, Elks Club and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lyons.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Carolyn Elizabeth Proctor Cooper of Lyons; a son, James Astor Cooper of Statesboro; a daughter, Margaret Ellen Cooper Akins of Lyons; seven grandchildren, James Clinton Cooper, Amy Akins Mayes, Dawn Engle Beasley, Benjamin Austin Akins, Christy Jane Cooper, David Allen Akins and Jared Wilson Cooper; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. today at Jones-Stewart Funeral Home in Lyons, burial Lyons City Cemetery.

Anne Hulce Wilkes, 68, Obituary

Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia - Anne Hulce Wilkes, 68, died July 15 at Meadows Memorial Hospital in Vidalia.

She was born in Richmond, Va., and was a former resident of Cleveland, Columbia, S.C., and Knoxville, Tenn. She was a reservationist for Delta Airlines. She was a member of Lyons First United Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Theron F. Wilkes of Lyons; a son and daughter-in-law, Theron Wilkes Jr. and Karen Wilkes of Maryville, Tenn.; three sisters, Peggy Sullivan and Nancy Flouret, both of Deerfield, Ill., and Mary Lou Longaker of Columbia; and a grandson Timothy Wilkes of Maryville.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Jones-Stewart Funeral Home in Lyons.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Stewart Funeral Home, burial in Lyons City Cemetery.
