Dr. James Everett Barfield Obituary

Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia - Dr. James Everett Barfield, 77, died July 20 at Meadows Nursing Center.

He was born in Macon and was a graduate of Lanier High School, Mercer University and the Medical College of Georgia. He worked as a physician in Vidalia since 1952. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Vidalia. He served as a pilot in World War II and was an escort with the D-Day invasion force. He helped to secure the grant to establish Meadows Memorial Hospital in Vidalia, where he later served as chief of staff.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Laverne Barfield of Vidalia; a daughter, Mary Kathrin Barfield of Savannah; sons, James Everett Barfield Jr. of Macon and Jiles McNatt Barfield of Vidalia; a sister, Marion Barfield Garrette of Macon; brothers, Marion Felder Barfield of Tucker, John Daniel Barfield of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert Edward Barfield of Amarillo, Texas; and three grandchildren.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Murchison Funeral Home, Vidalia.

FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, burial in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

REMEMBRANCES: a charity of the donor's choice.

Cleveland Thomas Jones Obituary

Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia - Cleveland Thomas Jones, 88, died July 15 at Toombs Nursing Home in Lyons.

He was a native of Toombs County, a welder and a member of First African Baptist Church in Vidalia.

SURVIVORS: four sons, Tommy Jones and Bobby Ray Smith, both of Vidalia, Curtis Canty of Harker Heights, Texas, and Willie Bobbitt of Atlanta; five daughters, Jacquelyn Jones of Vidalia, Peggy Roundtree of Livermore, Shirley Ford of Sandersville, Ethel Sharpe and Warnell Lee, both of Lyons; three brothers, Lavon Jones and Robert Lee Jones, both of Vidalia, and J.D. Jones of Miami; five sisters, Doretha Bright and Lillian Jones, both of Vidalia, Rosa Mae Cobbs of Charleston, Hazel Sanders of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Lillie Jo Butler of Miami; 21 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of relatives.

VISITATION: today at Vidalia Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Friday at First African Baptist Church, burial in Hillsboro Cemetery in Lyons.
