Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia - Robert M. Drake, Jr., 75, died April 7 at Veterans Medical Center in Decatur.
He was a native of Chatham County living most of his life in Toombs County. He was a retired Merchant Marine and served in the Marine Corps in World War II, serving aboard the USS Lexington and was survivor when it sank in the Battle of the Coral Sea. He was a recipient of the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Melbourne, Fla. Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Morocco Temple Shrine of Jacksonville, Fla., the Vidalia American Legion Post No. 97, the DAV Chapter No. 19 and he attended Victory Baptist Church of Vidalia.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Juanita Drake of Lyons; three sons, Robert Marshall Drake of St. Louis, Kenneth Wayne Drake of Pensacola, Fla. and Steven Craig Drake of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Patricia Susan Drake of Camden, Maine; a sister, Inez Smith of Gainsville, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
VISITATION: 6-9 today at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service.
FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Monday at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service, burial in Mount Moriah Church Cemetery, near Lyons.
