Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia - Elmer Clyde "Ace" Little, 70, died Oct. 8 at Meadows Regional Hospital.
The Canton native lived most of his adult life in Colquitt and Toombs counties. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. After graduation from Georgia Teachers College, he played baseball for two seasons with the Cincinnati Red Legs. He completed a 19-year coaching career with the Moultrie Packers and was named "Coach Of The Year" several times in Moultrie.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board and various committees. He was a member of the Elks Club and received a letter of commendation from President L.B. Johnson for saving a man's life in 1968.
Upon moving to Toombs County in 1975, he became a member of Lyons First United Methodist Church. He served as principal of Lyons Middle School and Toombs County High School. After retiring from public education, he served 10 years as principal of education at Georgia State Prison. He retired in 1992.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Betty Collins Little of Lyons; two sons, Clyde Little and his wife, Roxanne Pierce Little, of Register and Kirkland Joseph Little of Lyons; four brothers, Junior and Hancel Little, both of Canton, and Edward and Lamar Little, both of Marietta; a sister, Jesse Holcomb of Holly Springs; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
SERVICE: 2 p.m. today at Lyons First United Methodist Church, burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia - Freddie S. Hepner , 53, died Oct. 6 at Candler Hospital with kidney disease.
The native of Vidalia received a diploma in nursing from Memorial Hospital of Chatham County. She received a bachelor of science in nursing from Armstrong State College, a master of science in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a doctor of education from the University of Georgia. She began her career in nursing at Memorial Medical Center in 1967, then moved away.
In 1974 she was employed again at Memorial as clinical instructor for the School of Practical Nursing and in-service education. She also taught the Coronary Care Course and Medical Surgical Nursing. In 1978 she worked at Candler General Hospital as an education coordinator. In 1980 she worked at Armstrong State College and was the department head of the A.D.N. program.
In 1988 she returned to Memorial as director of the Continuing Education Coordinator for Information Systems. In 1994 she served as the clinical nurse specialist for surgical areas for St. Joseph's/Candler Health System. She published a number of articles and books.
She was a past president of the ABWA, Savannah, and Ladies Auxiliary Flag Unit, Alee Shrine Temple. She was Supreme Ambassador for Rana Temple in 1998, a member of York Rite Ladies Supper Club and Sigma Theta Tau. She helped organize Alee Temple Free Children's Clinic and Rana Temple, Daughters of the Nile and was their first Queen in 1996. She was Past Mother Adviser of Savannah Assembly No. 1, and a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Calvary Baptist Temple.
She was a clinical nurse specialist at Candler and St. Joseph's hospitals the past 10 years.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Jack L. Hepner of Savannah; three daughters, Michele L. Demperio of Sarasota, Fla., Melissa L. Lee of Orlando, Fla., and Melinda L. Hepner of Pooler; her mother, Inez Shaw of Vidalia; a brother, Eddie R. Shaw of Metter; a sister, Jill I. Lehman; her grandmother, Melva R. Westberry of Vidalia; three grandchildren and other relatives.
VISITATION: 6-9 p.m. Friday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
REMEMBRANCES: Shriners Children Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
