Ted Kavakos Obituary

Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia - Ted Kavakos, 81, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after a brief illness.

He was born in Vidalia and graduated from Lyons High School and Southern College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, GA. A World War II Veteran of the United States Navy, he owned City Pharmacy in Lyons for twenty seven years and later served as Chief Pharmacy Director at Georgia State Prison for sixteen years. An active member of Lyons First United Methodist Church, he served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, served on the Administrative Board, was past president of the John Durst Sunday School Class and was currently the president of the Hill Climbers. He was active in various civic organizations, serving as past president of Georgia Pharmaceutical Association - 1st District and Lyons Kiwanis Club. He was a former member of the Lyons City Council and was currently serving as a member of the Toombs County Democratic Committee. He was a Charter member of the Lyons Bulldog Athletic Booster Club and a strong supporter of all local sports and athletes.

Mr. Kavakos is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Green Kavakos of Lyons; two daughters, Lorraine and husband, Hodge Timmons of Arlington, GA, Gloria and husband, Dwayne Aaron of Fayetville, NC; four grandchildren, Laura Sampson and husband, John Schewe, Bill Sampson and wife, Angel, Sam Aaron and Katy Aaron; one sister, Loraine kavakos Robbins of Lyons; two nephews, Bill Carter and wife, Bettye and Don Carter and wife, Peggy. Visitation: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday from the First United Methodist Church of Lyons with the pastor, Rev. James Aycock and Dr. Max Hill officiating.

Burial: Lyons City Cemetery.

Remembrances: First United Methodist Church of Lyons or to the Lyons Recreation Department.

Letitia Karyl Ortega Obituary

Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia - Letitia Karyl Ortega, 39, died Tuesday.

Survivors: husband, Jose Ortega; two sons, James and Michael Bryant; one daughter, Tammy Bryant; mother, Gayle Sherrod; one sister, Lisa Kersey and others.

Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday from the Chapel of Jones-Stewart Funeral Home of Lyons.
