Mrs. Mary Mock Arp, 76, Obituary

Mrs. Mary Mock Arp, 76, of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, June 19, in Brian Center Nusing Home of Lumber City after an extended illness.

Mt. Vernon, Mountgomery County, Georgia - Mrs. Mary Mock Arp, of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, June 19, in Brian Center Nusing Home of Lumber City after an extended illness.

Mrs. Arp was a native of Effingham County residing in Kershaw, S.C. for some 20 years moving to Mt. Vernon some five years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Methodist Church in Columbia, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beaurie Guard. and Molly P. Mock, her husband, Boyce Lee Arp, grandson, Brian Reese Hardy, brothers, H.L. and Charles Mock, sisters, Betty Meade and Martha Mock.

Mrs. Arp is survived by two daughters, Dyanne Hardy and husband, Jim of Justin, Texas and Linda Lefferts and husband, Curt of Addison, Ala.; one grandchild, Candis Lefferts of Addison, Ala.; four brothers: Hudman Mock of Mt. Vernon, Wendell (Bo) Mock of S.C., Walton (BC) Mock of Cedar Crossing, and Gerald Mock of Savannah; three sisters, Dorothy Burke of Savannah, Jeanette Usher of Pt. Wentworth, and Shirley Brown of Leesburg, many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia.

Graveside funeral services for Ms. Mary Mock Arp will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, June 22, 2005 at 3:00 p.m., from Bonaventure Cemetery in Greenwich Section of Savannah with Pastor Lacy Frye officiating. Interment will follow.

Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia - Rev. Jordan William "Jake" Holland, Jr., of Savannah, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Hospice Savannah, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Temple, Ga., but grew up in Bremen, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Jordan W. Holland, Sr.

He was a graduate of Millen High School, Class of 1946, Mercer University in Macon, Ga., with an AB Degree, in 1950, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky, Class of 1956, with a M. Div; Teaching Fellowship in Systematic Theology under Dale L. Moody, 1956-1957; Graduate Studies in Theology toward Ph. D., 1956-57, 1959-61, University of Louisville, 1957-58, Emory University, Atlanta, Ga., Graduate Studies toward Ph. D.

He was a veteran having served in the Korean Conflict, and the Cuban Missile Crisis, serving in the US Army, as a Chaplain, and retired as a Lt. Colonel, Aug 16, 1989.

His pastorates included: Rosemary Baptist Church, Millen, Ga., 1952-53 (organized church), Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Owenton, Ky., 1553-58; First Baptist Church, Ghent, Ky., 1959-61; First Baptist Church, Unadilla, Ga, 1963-66; First Baptist Church, Piedmont, Ala., 1966-1971; Wilmington Island Baptist Church, Savannah, Ga 1971 - 1979; First Baptist Church, Lyons, Ga., 1979-1983; Lawtonville Baptist Church, Estill, S.C., 1983-1987.

He served on the State Executive Committee, Kentucky Baptist Convention; State Executive Committee, Alabama Baptist Convention; Who's Who in Religion in America; Trustee, Brewton-Parker College, Mt. Vernon, Ga; Presidential Search Committee, Brewton-Parker College. He retired from Memorial Medical Health University as a Staff Chaplain, in 1995, in Savannah, Ga.

He had served as Interim Pastor at the following churches, First Baptist Church of Garden City, Ga., Jasper Springs Baptist Church in Garden City, Ga., Cresthill Baptist Church in Savannah, Ga; Eastside Baptist Church in Claxton, GA; Trinity Presbyterian Church and John Knox Presbyterian both in Savannah, Ga; Eastside Baptist Church in Claxton, Ga; Northside Baptist Church in Hinesville, Ga; Cresthill Baptist Church in Screven County, Ga; Millen Baptist Church, Rosemary Baptist Church, Elam Baptist Church, Bluffton Baptist Church, Newington Baptist Church, and Robert McIntyre United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jane Ingram Holland of Savannah, Ga; a son and daughter in law, Jordan William "Joe" Holland, III and Wendy Holland, of Savannah, Ga; a daughter and son in law, Margaret Rose Keck and Greg Keck of Tybee Island, Ga; three grandchildren, Jordan Keck, Rosalie Keck and Randi Holland.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home.

Funeral Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, with Rev. Cohen Arms & Rev. Jerry Graham, officiatin g.

Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
